Forgive me – I voted for Barack Obama in 2008. THERE – I’ve said it!
I’m actually very apolitical. The main reason I voted the way I did was because of the thousands of American lives being lost in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
When I first heard Barack Obama’s speech about his health care proposal I was fired up. Barack Obama talked about the ability to keep your original insurance if you wanted to, and then he talked about reforming health care so the insurance companies couldn’t rip you off for pre-existing conditions. This sounded like the right thing to do.
Fast forward to 2013
I should have known better. I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a BBA. One of the first things I learned in Business School was that the Federal Government will screw up anything they can get their hands on – especially if it could be better handled on a local basis.
“A Government that is big enough to supply everything you need is big enough to take everything you have… The course of history shows that as a government grows, liberty decreases.” – Thomas Jefferson
I really wanted that ‘chicken in every pot’ that our former President Herbert Hoover once promised (and maybe even Joni Mitchell promised!). But you know what… If it looks too good to be true- It Ain’t Gonna Happen!
Witness the screwed-up roll-out of healthcare.gov in October of 2013. I’m a freelance Austin web designer and even I know that you have to test a website before you launch it. I’m going to stop writing now… my head is about to explode…
